How Employers Can Avoid Discrimination in Form I-9

May 12, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

This Webinar will discuss how we can avoid discrimination in Form I-9 and will be presented by Sara-Daisy Dygert. The Immigrant and Employee Rights (IER) section in the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice enforces the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) 8 U.S.C. § 1324b. This law prohibits employers from discriminating based on citizenship, immigration status or national origin in hiring, firing, recruitment and referral for a fee, and during the Form I-9 and e-Verify processes. This presentation will:

  • Provide an overview of employer obligations under the anti-discrimination provision of the INA;
  • Illustrate how employers can avoid committing unlawful employment discrimination based on citizenship status or national origin;
  • Teach best practices in order to avoid discrimination and common pitfalls that can lead an employer to violate the anti-discrimination provision of the INA; and

Give helpful resources for future questions and further guidance.
