Developing pharmaceutical drugs to treat human disease is a challenging and expensive process. Although huge strides have been made with many diseases, drugs typically have several warnings and side effects, and numerous diseases have no treatment at all. In this discussion about pharmaceutical drug discovery, Bruce Kimmel, CEO of Vidrio Technologies, reveals how drugs are developed and why we don’t have a cure for everything. Kimmel received his PhD in biochemistry from U.C. Berkeley and has managed science and software projects in the commercial, academic and nonprofit sectors.
