Pasture-Based Production: Managing the Family Farm

May 10, 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Learn how farmers Casey Wisch and Molly Kroiz manage multi-species grazing (cattle, goats, pigs, and poultry), direct marketing, and value-added production on their neighboring farms. We will discuss multi-species grazing management, raising small groups of livestock with children on the farm, balancing family and business demands, and pasture management for animal nutrition, environmental sustainability, and soil health.

We will begin at Long Stone Farm (38212 Long Ln, Lovettsville, VA 20180) and travel to George’s Mill Artisan Cheese (11873 Georges Mill Rd, Lovettsville, VA) for the second part of the workshop—please be prepared to drive or carpool during the field day. A potluck will follow the workshop. Please bring a dish to share!
