The 2023 Loudoun Innovation Challenge Finalists Have Been Announced

The Loudoun Economic Development Authority and Loudoun Economic Development have named the finalists for the 2023 Loudoun Innovation Challenge. This prestigious competition recognizes local companies that are pioneering new initiatives in their industries.

This year’s competition promises to be fierce, with 12 finalists vying for six grants totaling $150,000. The grand prize winner will take home $40,000, while the winner of each category walks away with $25,000 for their innovation. There’s also a $10,000 People’s Choice Award up for grabs and it’s in the public’s hands to vote for their favorite company at

The 12 finalists will participate in the live pitch event on November 29th at River Creek Club in Leesburg, showcasing their ideas and competing for the top prizes. Listed in alphabetical order according to category, the finalists are:

Agri-Tech Innovation:

  • Vinterra Winery Services

Clean Energy Innovation:

  • Mehrdel LLC
  • Nsmart Inc.
  • Opal Minds LLC

Highly Specialized Manufacturing Innovation:

Information and Communications Technology Innovation:

  • CodeLock, Inc.
  • Measured Risk, Inc.
  • Onclave Networks, Inc

The annual Innovation Challenge is a testament to this vibrant ecosystem, showcasing the best and brightest minds in the region,” said Buddy Rizer, Loudoun Economic Development Executive Director. “This year’s participants are no exception, representing a diverse range of established businesses and startups, all with transformational ideas that have the potential to shape the future of their respective fields. I truly believe that these ideas will become the next flurry of #LoudounPossible success stories and our team is excited to see how these innovative ideas will perform in the next round.”

During the live-pitch event, which is open to the public, the 12 finalists will present their cutting-edge concepts to the Loudoun EDA directors. These judges represent a diverse cross-section of the county’s business leaders and economic stakeholders, providing the perfect opportunity for entrepreneurs to gain valuable exposure and feedback. Each finalist will have ten minutes to present their idea, followed by a five minute Q&A period where the judges will question the implementation and viability of each concept before scoring.
