The REDC is comprised of Loudoun business owners and stakeholders, and works with the Department of Economic Development to promote the growth and vitality of Loudoun’s agriculture and other rural industries. REDC members are expected to be advocates and liaisons for their specific industries.

“Loudoun County has a long economic history rooted in agriculture, and we see that extending far into the future. The best way to ensure the preservation of Loudoun’s farmland is to make it financially feasible for landowners,” said Loudoun’s Economic Development Executive Director Buddy Rizer. “We look to the REDC as a solutions-oriented board that can help make rural business success #LoudounPossible.”

There are five REDC appointments with terms expiring on December 31, 2019. Loudoun County seeks candidates with the following expertise:

  • Arts & Culture;
  • At-Large;
  • Bed & Breakfast/Rural Lodging Establishment;
  • Horticulture;
  • Production Agriculture.

The most recent USDA Ag Census counted more than 1,200 commercial farms in Loudoun, in addition to hundreds of other businesses supported by agriculture. With the adoption of the county’s new Comprehensive Plan, this is a crucial time to guide its implementation for farms and rural businesses.

“REDC’s mission is to promote the growth and vitality of Loudoun’s rural industries through recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, and support and advice to the Department of Economic Development,” said Loudoun’s Business Development Officer of Agriculture and Business Services John Magistro.
