Loudoun Small Business Week 2018 is still seven months away, but we need help picking our video and panel discussion topic. Internally, we’ve narrowed it down to two options, but now we want your input.

Which documentary movie would you like to see?

Burt’s Buzz: The story of Burt Shavitz, the nonconforming beekeeper behind the Burt’s Bees brand.

Official video description:

Humorous, authentic and compelling, BURT’S BUZZ is a journey into the remarkable double life of Burt Shavitz— a reclusive beekeeper who reluctantly became one of the world’s most recognizable brand identities.

Guided by those who know — or at least think they know — Burt best, Burt’s Buzz is a fascinating portrait of a singular personality who refuses to conform.

Loudoun County is No. 1 in the Commonwealth of Virginia for bees and honey production, just one part of the diverse rural economy. From its 1,400 farms and $180 million equine industry, to its rapidly growing craft beverage industry, Loudoun’s rural economy is as diverse as it is important.

New Chefs on the Block: A close-to-home look at the challenges of launching a successful restaurant.

Official video description:

New Chefs on the Block is an intimate, multi-year portrait of two chefs and their staffs in Washington, D.C. who struggle to open and maintain their first restaurants. The film begins with each restaurant under construction and follows them through their first year of business.

Against all odds, one becomes the most famous new restaurant in America, winning Bon Appetit magazine’s Best New Restaurant award and a James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic. The other chef redefines success while his wife mulls leaving her high-paying job to work at the new pizza shop full-time.

Loudoun County is growing into a restaurant destination, with diverse and award-winning options popping up regularly. But with increased competition comes increased opportunity for crowdsourcing, research and strategy to make a restaurant successful.
