Spring has sprung and it has been unseasonably warm this year. For those of us who covet the fresh-picked from-the-farm strawberry, this is fantastic news! Strawberries are ready for harvest a little early this year.

Typically, Loudoun County pick-your-own strawberry season starts in mid-to-late May, but strawberries have ripened and are ready for you and your family to pick now. See below for pick-your-own farms and four delicious strawberry recipes to help you savor the taste all summer long:

Here are some suggestions on ways to prepare your fresh-picked, luscious fruit. Remember, you can use your strawberries right away, or freeze them for use throughout the season.

Groovie Smoothie: This refreshing strawberry smoothie is sure to cool you off on a hot summer day.

Stuffed Strawberries: Here is a tasty option that is also a patriotic red, white and blue for Memorial and Independence Day gatherings.

Strawberry Spinach Salad: If you want a healthy choice, here’s a link to a spinach salad with strawberries. You can always add grilled chicken or steak to get your protein.

Strawberry Shortcake: This traditional option is quick, easy and self-serve so each person can prepare it exactly how they want it.

Lastly, it would be neglectful to bring your attention to these wonderful Loudoun strawberries and not mention the Fabbioli Cellars and Wegmeyer Farms collaboration wine “Berry Good Friends.” You can find this creative sparkling wine at either location.
