With a snip of the ceremonial ribbon, JK Moving President/CEO Chuck Kuhn opened the company’s newest storage facility (75,000 square feet) in Sterling, Virginia.

“This building to you looks like a warehouse, but to us it looks like continued growth,” Kuhn said. “To the county, it should look like 150 new jobs for Loudoun County.”

This facility will be filled by the end of January, top to bottom, side to side, as the company empties out a nearby facility it has been renting. This is the first of five new facilities, with the other four expected to be 110,000 square feet each. Construction for the full project is expected to cost $55 million.

“It’ll cut our toll expenses down, our commute down a tad and give us a lot more exposure,” Kuhn told the Washington Business Journal in March 2016. As of March, JK Moving employed 715 people, an increase of 265 since 2011. The business has grown by more than 20 percent in each of the last two years.

Ever wonder what 75,000 square feet of storage space looks like? ? JK Moving Services answers that with today's grand opening ceremony. Congrats and welcome to your new space!

JK Moving has been headquartered in Loudoun County since 1993, growing from a modest residential mover into a residential and commercial powerhouse. It now stands as the D.C. region’s largest privately owned moving and storage company, and one of the top-10 largest independent moving companies in the U.S.

Kuhn praised the ombudsman role of Loudoun Economic Development in guiding his team through the planning and permitting process, which accelerated their construction timeline.

“I’d like to take a minute and thank some people that really helped us get here,” Kuhn said to kick off his remarks. “I’d like to first thank Buddy Rizer, Economic Development, Loudoun County. His team really ushered us through and made this happen in five quick months.”
