WTOP reports that out of 134 counties in Virginia, Loudoun is the healthiest. This finding was recently revealed by the annual County Health Rankings & Roadmap Report.
Counties are rated on 30 factors that affect health, such as smoking and alcohol abuse. The study also rates how many people in a county live within three miles of a place where they can exercise, such as a health club, dance studio or pool.
Here in Loudoun, there are 55 businesses that are categorized as exercise facilities. And that doesn’t even count rec centers such as Ida Lee, or companies that have on-site gyms for their employees, or apartment buildings, condos and HOAs that have private gyms for residents!
I spoke about this with Tony Howard, the president and CEO of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce (which has a Health and Wellness Committee). He said that he had been surprised to learn how many Loudouners work in the health space. There’s a ton of personal trainers, plus people in related fields like physical therapy and chiropractic care.
When you add in the fact that the western part of the county has a number of trails for biking, running, hiking and horseback riding, it’s no wonder that people in Loudoun get a lot of exercise!
In the first three months of 2016, Loudoun Economic Development has been pleased to welcome three new fitness facilities to the county: The Daily Method Exercise Studio in Ashburn, The Fitness Equation at One Loudoun, and Ashburn Crossfit. Join us in thanking these businesses for helping keep Loudoun healthy!
