The farm-to-fork movement has been gaining steam across the country, with consumers becoming increasingly interested in where their food comes from. Farm-to-Fork Loudoun, in its second year, is bringing the best of Loudoun’s thriving agricultural businesses to restaurants throughout the county.

Kicking off today, July 26, and running through August 5th, Farm-to-Fork Loudoun celebrates local food and honors collaboration between Loudoun businesses. Participating restaurants have pledged to use at least 70 percent locally-sourced food and drinks for their Farm-to-Fork menu offerings.

Over twenty farms are participating in the event, offering everything form ecoganic vegetables to lamb. Offerings made from these farm-fresh ingredients will be paired with a variety of Loudoun-based wine, brew and spirits makers, including Notaviva Vineyard, Lost Rhino Brewing Company and Catoctin Creek Distillery.

Recently, Melanie Alnwick of FOX 5 News in Washington, D.C., visited Bluemont Vineyard to preview some of the dishes that will be offered in restaurants throughout the county. Viewers were treated to culinary feats including a pizza that will be served at Fireworks Pizza, which features pattypan squash from Great Country Farms and arugula from Endless Summer Harvest, among other locally-sourced ingredients.

In addition to being a fun opportunity for diners to experience new menu items at their favorite restaurants, Farm-to-Fork is an important business initiative. The collaboration between the farms and restaurants has the potential to open up new avenues of commerce and new customer bases for our rural businesses. For instance, prior to their participation in Farm-to-Fork, Great Country Farms had never focused on wholesale. Now in their second year of participation, Great Country Farms is enthusiastic about the program and has expanded their growing capacity.

Join Farm-to-Fork Loudoun at any of its participating restaurants and energize your palate while energizing your local economy.
