Loudoun County Virginia More Than You Think

The Collective Brainpower Is Enormous

Photo of young woman smilingThe people you need to make your business work are here. Regionally, we have the fourth-largest labor market in the nation. It’s a highly-educated, highly motivated and extremely committed workforce that includes everyone from experienced professionals to recent graduates.

• The Washington, D.C. region ranks first in the nation in the number of knowledge workers in professional services, information technology, education, and research.

• We're the most educated region in the country, with nearly 46 percent of all residents holding at least a bachelor's degree, and over 20 percent holding a graduate degree.

 • Greater Washington's life sciences workforce is second in the nation, and the region has the most robust science and research sector of any leading metro area in the U.S.

• There is great synergy between local higher education institutions, the workforce and companies that leads to ongoing workforce development and education, including customized programs for employee training.

The region is also home to world-class institutions assisting workforce development, including the:

  • Virginia Department of Business Assistance. This economic development agency is dedicated to the growth and success of the Commonwealth’s business community.  Established by the Virginia General Assembly in 1996, the Virginia Department of Business Assistance ensures that businesses and entrepreneurs have a principal point of contact with state government for inquiries and services.
  • Virginia Employment Commission. The VEC offers policy development, job placement, workforce information, transition and training services to promote economic growth and stability.
  • Northern Virginia Workforce Investment Board. Formed by seven counties and cities (Fairfax, Fairfax City, City of Falls Church, Loudoun, Prince William, Manassas, and Manassas Park) under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, the Workforce Investment Board administers federally funded employment & training programs, and supports public/private partnerships involving local government, business and industry, labor, education and training institutions, employment services, and community support organizations.
