Loudoun County’s land use plans and zoning provide for commercial development predominantly in the eastern portion of the county, as well as within the county’s seven towns. The plans account for Loudoun’s diverse industry base: protecting Dulles International Airport with zoning to support airport services and industrial uses on surrounding and adjacent properties; providing for professional employment close by and within residential developments; and quaint office and retail space within the historic towns. As major employers located in Loudoun, commercial corridors with distinct characteristics emerged.
