Loudoun's emerging Life Science cluster is anchored by the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Farm Research Campus. Our growing
list of companies in the Life Science cluster includes
IBA Molecular,
EPL Labs,
TessArae,
IT Cadre, and
K2M. These companies are attracted to Loudoun because we have one of the nation’s most educated workforces – nearly 50% have a bachelors degree or higher. We’re also a part of the
region offering the nation’s largest science and engineering workforce, and the third highest concentration of life sciences workers – nearly 21,000 – in the entire world.

Combined with our proximity to
Washington Dulles Airport, an abundance of academic institutions and federal research opportunities, government-supported initiatives like the
Science & Technology Cabinet and the
Northern Virginia Life Sciences Communities regional partnership, and the sponsorship of the
Medical Automation International Conference, these assets are proving influential in Loudoun’s blossoming life sciences industry.
