Loudoun County Virginia More Than You Think

We Have More Cabinets Than the President

DED Director Larry Rosenstrauch, right, at a meeting of Cabinet leaders in 2007. (Left to right, Science & Tech Cabinet Chair Leslie Platt, CEO Cabinet Chair John Wood, Design Cabinet Chair Alan Hansen).

Greater Good. By focusing on the importance of bringing community expertise in to assist the county government achieve its goals, the Department has developed and grown a series of public-private partnerships.

Whether it’s connecting a start-up business with the Small Business Development Center or inviting companies to participate in partnerships that we’ve formed, an important part of our mission is to introduce business leaders to one another and to provide opportunities where they can collaborate. That’s the theory behind everything we’ve created – the Economic Development Commission, the Rural Economic Development Council, the CEO Cabinet, Design Cabinet, and Science and Technology Cabinet. We consider ourselves quite lucky to be in a county where such extraordinary business talent makes a commitment not only to their own success, but to contributing their time, ideas, and energy to the greater good of the entire community.

CEO Cabinet

The CEO Cabinet is composed of public, private and nonprofit CEOs and chairman-level executives. The goal of the Cabinet is to make Loudoun one of the top 20 best places in the country to live and work.

Design Cabinet

Engineers, architects, planners, and designers come together in a fusion of creative community problem solving with DED’s Design Cabinet. Whether it’s traffic calming in the east, or village preservation in the west, the Cabinet tackles some of Loudoun’s most interesting challenges in order to help keep Loudoun a community of high quality design.

Economic Development Commission

Established in 1995 by Loudoun’s Board of Supervisors, the Economic Development Commission (EDC) is a public/private partnership responsible for promoting the county’s economic development. We like to call the EDC the granddaddy of our partnerships.

Agriculture, horticulture and equine industries are vitally important to Loudoun’s economy and our special “fresh and local” regional flavor. The Rural Economic Development Council (REDC) was created by the Board of Supervisors in 2000 to promote the growth of our rural economy as well as provide advice and recommendations.

Science & Technology Cabinet

Loudoun’s key forum to encourage the development of the county and the region as a global center of science and technology. Founded in 2002, the Loudoun County Science and Technology Cabinet has helped to recruit several world-class scientists to the region’s public university. It was instrumental in bringing the International Medical Automation Conference to Loudoun through 2011.
