It really wasn't that long ago that email and dial-up were revolutionary in Loudoun and the rest of the world. But today, staying on top of these overlapping and evolving methods of communications technology requires a greater deal of dedication and finesse.

 

Loudoun County has chosen to assume leadership in this arena, both with its tech-friendly government and with the internet infrastructure supporting the development and connectivity of our growing technology industry and life science research facilites.

  • Loudoun County Government is ranked first in the nation (of all counties with a population between 250,000 and 499,999) by the Center for Digital Government for its use of technology to deliver quality services. 

  • Direct connection to MAE-East,an Internet Exchange Point spread across the east coast of the United States, with locations in Vienna, Virginia; Reston, Virginia; Ashburn, Virginia; New York, New York; and Miami, Florida. 

     

  • The county government's commitment to advancing the technology is demonstrated with its manager of broadband services. This position was created at the direction of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, and is responsible for promoting the development of broadband services throughout the county, monitoring the quality of broadband services, participating in community development processes, and promoting the development of a county government institutional network (I-Net).The manager serves to lead three main goals:
    • Residential efforts: Increase broadband access and consumer choice for Loudoun residents;

    • Business efforts: Ensure businesses have access to broadband services; and

    • Government efforts: Develop a countywide I-Net to better serve Loudoun residents.
