Who is the EDC?

  • Created in 1995 by Loudoun’s Board of Supervisors, the Economic Development Commission (EDC) is a public/private partnership responsible for promoting the county’s economic development.
  • We like to call the EDC the granddaddy of our partnerships. The EDC serves as the forum through which businesses and government leaders meet to exchange economic development ideas and experiences, and yes debate a little too.
  • The broad range of industry representation – including aerospace, agribusiness, banking & finance, higher education, technology, real estate development, small business and telecommunications – makes the EDC a powerful and effective forum.
  • The EDC examines and advises the Board of Supervisors on issues of local and regional importance, such as the development of Loudoun’s commercial tax base and the planning for Metrorail expansion into the county.

The EDC's responsibilities include:

  • Developing, updating and implementing the community's Economic Development Strategic Plan.
  • Providing program and policy recommendations to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.
  • Coordinating economic development and marketing activities among groups in the county.
  • Providing the Department of Economic Development with ongoing support and oversight.
