Engineers, architects, planners, and designers come together in a fusion of creative community problem solving with the Department of Economic Development’s Design Cabinet. Whether it’s traffic calming in the east, or village preservation in the west, the Cabinet tackles some of Loudoun’s most interesting challenges in order to help keep Loudoun a community of high quality ecological, urban, architectural, and landscape design.
In 2003, the Design Cabinet initiated the Signatures of Loudoun Awards program to encourage and recognize high quality design projects throughout the county. This annual program solicits public nominations for outstanding design in seven categories.
The Cabinet also conducts design charrettes, complimentary brainstorming and problem solving sessions held at the request of both the public and the private sector. While there is no obligation to use the results of the design sessions, results are often used to improve plans and stimulate new ways to think about these projects. Review the results yourself to see how this volunteer group has supported the community on previous projects:
